WSPTA recognizes that students deserve to learn in modern, safe school facilities. Most school districts do not have sufficient building capacity to meet the needs of state-mandated reduced class sizes and high school requirements, and often use portables lacking adequate bathrooms and lunchroom facilities. Current funding is insufficient for districts to build permanent structures to provide the appropriate environment. Without local funds, districts cannot access the matching funds in the state School Construction Assistance Program. Due to their ongoing bargaining talks school has been cancelled through Tuesday Sept 11th. It is unclear when the Middle School will reschedule their picture day. Start of school pushed back to Tuesday 9/4 Battle Ground Public Schools continues to bargain with the Battle Ground Education Association (BGEA), but unfortunately did not yet reach an agreement on compensation for certificated instructional staff. Battle Ground Public Schools has agreed to have a finance representative from the Washington Education Association (WEA) participate in a discussion to help resolve this issue.  While schools are closed:  Kindergarten parent-teacher conferences scheduled on closure days will be postponed.  High school athletics will continue as scheduled with practices and games/meets/matches as the coaches are covered under a separate contract.  Community education classes will continue ... read full article
